THE TRUELOVE<\/strong><\/span>

There is a faith in loving fiercely<\/span>
\nthe one who is rightfully yours,<\/span>
\nespecially if you have<\/span>
\nwaited years and especially<\/span>
\nif part of you never believed<\/span>
\nyou could deserve this<\/span>
\nloved and beckoning hand<\/span>
\nheld out to you this way.<\/span><\/h2>\n

I am thinking of faith now<\/span>
\nand the testaments of loneliness<\/span>
\nand what we feel we are<\/span>
\nworthy of in this world.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Years ago in the Hebrides,<\/span>
\nI remember an old man<\/span>
\nwho walked every morning<\/span>
\non the grey stones<\/span>
\nto the shore of baying seals,<\/span>
\nwho would press his hat<\/span>
\nto his chest in the blustering<\/span>
\nsalt wind and say his prayer<\/span>
\nto the turbulent Jesus<\/span>
\nhidden in the water,<\/span><\/h2>\n

and I think of the story<\/span>
\nof the storm and everyone<\/span>
\nwaking and seeing<\/span>
\nthe distant<\/span>
\nyet familiar figure<\/span>
\nfar across the water<\/span>
\ncalling to them<\/span><\/h2>\n

and how we are all<\/span>
\npreparing for that<\/span>
\nabrupt waking,<\/span>
\nand that calling,<\/span>
\nand that moment<\/span>
\nwe have to say yes,<\/span>
\nexcept it will<\/span>
\nnot come so grandly<\/span>
\nso Biblically<\/span>
\nbut more subtly<\/span>
\nand intimately in the face<\/span>
\nof the one you know<\/span>
\nyou have to love<\/span><\/h2>\n

so that when<\/span>
\nwe finally step out of the boat<\/span>
\ntoward them, we find<\/span>
\neverything holds<\/span>
\nus, and everything confirms<\/span>
\nour courage, and if you wanted<\/span>
\nto drown you could,<\/span>
\nbut you don\u2019t<\/span>
\nbecause finally<\/span>
\nafter all this struggle<\/span>
\nand all these years<\/span>
\nyou simply don\u2019t want to<\/span>
\nany more<\/span>
\nyou\u2019ve simply had enough<\/span>
\nof drowning<\/span>
\nand you want to live and you<\/span>
\nwant to love and you will<\/span>
\nwalk across any territory<\/span>
\nand any darkness<\/span>
\nhowever fluid and however<\/span>
\ndangerous to take the<\/span>
\none hand you know<\/span>
\nbelongs in yours.<\/span><\/h2>\n
