Emotional Maturity Challenge

Our Free 8-Day ‘Free to BE Effective’ Challenge begins on Monday, October 19.
Registration required: each morning a 10-minute video with a creative prompt will be posted via email.
In as little as 15 minutes per day, you are invited to place your creative attention upon “The Criteria of Emotional Maturity” as provided by the Menninger Foundation…

Homeschool students dive into art by creating their masterpieces, experimenting with materials, discussing artwork, and experiencing MOCA exhibits!
Young artists will explore working in three dimensions using paper mache clay as their medium. Learn how to sculpt, sand, and refine details using paint and mixed media embellishments.

Retablo & Ex Voto
Instructor: Donna Iona Drozda
A traditional story-telling folk-art form, the Retablo is explored in two parts: a “charming pictorial representation and an accompanying narrative text”.
The ex-voto is a votive offering … given in fulfillment of a vow (hence the Latin term, short for ex voto suscepto, “from the vow made”) or in gratitude or devotion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ex-voto Our exploration of this folk-art will be to mine the wide variety of forms that contemporary ex-votos can take.
Delve into these two provocative styles of visual memoir. Create a present-day translation of a personal story; an experience in your life that, while difficult or delightful, taught strength and the ability to gain insight from the event.
Bring a sketchbook and your favorite writing utensil, supplies will be discussed in more detail during the first class.

Young artists explore the museum grounds and galleries observing and creating a portfolio of 2-dimensional works on paper, cardboard, collage, and canvas. Each week includes demonstration covering techniques with a variety of artist tools; drawing pencils, charcoal, pen and ink, watercolor, tempera, resist painting as well as monoprints. Additionally, each young artist is allowed to discover more about his or her creative interests by exploring their ideas.
Saturday in the Studio allows young artists to design and create their artwork from start to finish. Students will be guided through concept development to the creation of their two or three-dimensional works of art. Young artists will seek inspiration from the works on display in the museum galleries and through their research. Problem-solving is supported so that students may complete their artistic vision.
